KALJO PÕLLU – 1956 began his studies in glass art at the National Institute of Art.In 1962 he began working as the head of the Tartu University Art Cabinet. He brought to the university town the avant-garde spirit by cultivating op, pop and other modern arts.From 1975 he was a lecturer at Tallinn Art University.He organized ethnographic research trips to Finno-Ugric and Samoyed peoples.In 1996 he founded the art group YDI.The most well-known graphics are “Fields”, “Kalivägi”, “Heaven and Earth”. Kaljo Põllu has created modernist three-dimensional objects, graphics with social content, paintings, exlibris, illustrated also Lennart Meri’s books, published studies on art of rock, etc. He was an honorary doctor of the Estonian Academy of Arts and the University of Jyväskylä.
